Special Ones
Baseball Note…
Might not be the first one to point this out, but it seems as if every 10-years the World Series is able to produce truly special and epic series. Every year ending in one..
2011: St. Louis Cardinals vs. Texas Rangers, 7 game series, walk-off homeruns, amazing fall baseball!
2001: Arizona Diamondbacks defeat NY Yankees, 7 game series, walk-off, series ending single off the greatest closer in history, not to mention that it followed the attacks of September 11th.
1991: Minnesota Twins defeat Atlanta Braves, 7 game series, Kriby Puckett’s walk-off home run in Game 6, the legend Jack Buck “See you tomorrow night”.
1981: LA Dodgers defeat NY Yankees, 6-game series but three games were decided by a single run and it did follow the players strike. Dodgers first championship since 1965.
1971: Pittsburgh Pirates defeat Baltimore Orioles, 7-game series, O’s needed extra innings to push a game 7, Pirates took game 7 in a pitchers duel 2-1.
1961: Yankees defeat Cincinnati Reds, 4-1. Okay not so special this time.
1951: Yankees defeat NY Giants, 7-game series, followed the “Shot Heard Round the World”, another tightly played Game 7
1941: Yankees defeat Brooklyn Dodges, 4-1. Not too special but only a few weeks later we were in World War II
1931: St. Louis Cardinals defeat Philadelphia A’s, 7 game series
1921: NY Giants defeat NY Yankees, 5-3, the last of the 9-game series, Babe Ruth gets suspended for the 1922 season because of barnstorming, and of course it was the first of the Yankees 40 World Series appearances
1911: Philadelphia A’s defeat NY Giants, 4-2, two extra inning games
